The European Space Agency Mars Express orbiter continues to return extraordinary imagery like this two year old view of the Deuteronilus Mensae region imaged at 95 ft. (29 meter) resolution by the High-Resolution Stereo Camera. The valleys in the image likely originated from intense flooding by melted ice water. (Click on the image to enlarge) Further erosion was caused when the water then froze rather quickly into glaciers, that then moved down the slopes reshaping the terrain.
