MRAP vehicles are inherently no heavier than other vehicles, they are just design differently than the Humvee. The lightest of the MRAP vehicles are about about 7 tons. The up armoured Humvee is I think about 6 tons.
It is true that the Military's are buying MRAP vehicles that are much heaver than the Humvee.
The cougar 4 by 4 is about 15 tons. Why they are buying the heaviest of the MRAP vehicles to replace the Humvee I don't really understand since they are really a different class of vehicle than the Humvee.
