In my Nov. 21 post, I wrote about how confusion still abounds worldwide on carrying duty-free liquids. Our good friend Mark at Upgrade Travel told his tale of woe when he tried to buy duty-free at Munich Airport in October.
Well, good news Mark! In the Dec. 15 issue (subscribers only) of Aviation Daily, I write about how the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is urging its 189 contract states to ensure global harmonization on the exemption of liquids purchased either at airport duty-free shops or on board aircraft.
ICAO recommends that member countries allow duty-free liquids that have been packed in a sealed plastic bag that is tamper-proof and shows proof of purchase at an airport shop or aboard an aircraft on the day of departure. And best of all? ICAO wants the new recommendations to cover departing and transferring passengers. So it looks like the next time Mark goes to Barcelona to see his good friend Xavier, he'll be able to give him that lovely 2001 St. Emilion Bordeaux after all.
Hallelujah!
Xavier will be so pleased. ;)
