The Army has awarded a $4.88 million contract to Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies for a hybrid diesel-electric vehicle demonstrator for light-duty off-roading. The program is a follow-on to the Irvine, CA, company's first "Aggressor" fuel cell hybrid developed for U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center. The Army is looking to Aggressor to maybe serve as a long-range reconnaissance vehicle; however, the company believes it has applications for homeland security, border patrol, park service and other commercial applications.
