It seemed to me that it would also be fitting to give Joris an official welcome to Aviation Week: Defense, even though he was here before me ;-) Furthermore, I want you, our readers, to know more about him. Short version: Joris has been in this business for over 20 years. He knows what he's talking about and is particularly expert on the European side of the Atlantic.
Those of us who are attached primarily to Defense Technology International take all three words in the title of that monthly seriously. Joris is our primary, full-time link to Europe, Asia, and Africa. Bill was born in England. David travels all over the world to get the story. And in addition to our full time staff, we have correspondents around the globe.
One more thing about our full time editors: All three of them are extremely prolific. They will have no problem filling the pages of DTI and the posts of this weblog.
As I did with Bill's post yesterday, I'm attaching the press release on Joris' hire to the bottom of this post in case you'd like to read it.
Otherwise, enough with the PR. Let's get on to the stories, right? ;-)
JORIS JANSSEN LOK NAMED SENIOR EUROPEAN EDITOR FOR AVIATION WEEK’s DEFENSE TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE
Washington, DC (February 1, 2007) — Joris Janssen Lok, an accomplished and highly respected international defense journalist who has spent nearly two decades covering international defense for Jane’s Information Group, has joined the staff of Defense Technology International (DTI) as Senior European Editor, Publisher Gregory D. Hamilton announced today.
DTI, a division of the McGraw-Hill Companies’ AVIATION WEEK, is an integrated media business dedicated to covering the interplay of defense technology, funding, operations, programs and policies. It launched in September 2005 with DTI magazine as a bi-monthly supplement to Aviation Week & Space Technology. The magazine quickly established itself with a worldwide circulation of 38,000 military, government and defense industry decision-makers, defense infrastructure opinion leaders and influencers, and has increased frequency to publish as a monthly stand-alone in 2007. In addition to the magazine, the DTI portfolio includes events and web-based products and services.
Janssen Lok became a full-time defense and security journalist in 1985 when he joined the Netherlands Ministry of Defence as a reporter covering land, air and naval defense topics. In 1989, he joined Jane's Information Group, where his leadership responsibilities included eight years as Naval Editor of Jane's Defence Weekly and nine years as International Editor of Jane's International Defence Review. He has traveled extensively, and reported on a wide range of industry, science & technology, political and operational issues.
“Joris Janssen Lok brings exceptional awareness of defense technology and its role in global defense strategies to this new position at DTI,” said Hamilton. “We are proud to welcome him to our growing international leadership team, and look forward to his contribution to our commitment to make DTI a truly global information resource.”
In his new role with DTI, Janssen Lok will remain based in The Netherlands.
