Lost Your Louis Vuitton Luggage? RFID Ltd. Can Help

The March 12 issue of Aviation Daily's Airports includes my story (subscribers only) about a company that offers RFID designer tags to help travelers recover stolen luggage.  BagChip ELITE was created by Denver-based RFID Ltd.

"At least three items in the Taiga luxury-luggage line from Louis Vuitton cost upwards of $2,000. The presence of BagChipELITE in more expensive, designer bags will reduce chance of theft and loss and increase chance of recovery," said President Nicholas Chavez. "If someone loses a $2,000 bag, we feel as though it's safe to say that the contents inside the bag are worth at least, if not more than the bag itself, causing the potential for a risk event with a cost between $4,000 and $10,000."

BagChipELITE is a permanent tag attached to a travelers' luggage, said Chavez. "The initial versions of the tags are standard WORM (Write Once Read Many) RFID tags that have been ruggedized and cost $10," he said. "They are fully programmed with a traveler's name, address, phone number and identifying baggage information in a nice black leather case. The BagChipELITE tags are essentially the same, but with patterns inspired by designers such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel and Gucci."

Airports will eventually have RFID readers to detect BagChipped bags within a luggage tote or crate to pinpoint loss, said Chavez. "We are restricted by non- disclosure and confidentiality agreements about the specific airports that are evaluating this technology. I can tell you that we currently have interest from one regional airline and five major airports to evaluate this technology further," he said. "A national airline and another major airport set a meeting for the middle of March for further technological evaluation."

Louis Vuitton is definitely a hot brand of handbags and accessories but I really prefer Chanel and this article just adds to my views I am not much feeling the styles, I really would prefer to have a Chanel or even a Chloe it would even cost me less.
